The international federation of library associations and institutions (ifla) is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. It is the global voice of the library and information profession. Yalsas ultimate teen bookshelf (pdf) highlights must-have teen materials for libraries. The ultimate teen bookshelf, with titles listed on this webpage and as a pdf download, was developed in conjunction with the united we serve initiative. The list includes 50 books, five magazines and five audio books. The young adults choices project develops an annual list of new books that will encourage adolescents to read. The young adults choices reading list from the international literacy association (ila) includes top ya books selected by teenage reviewers. the complete list of winners and finalists from 2010 to present (scroll to the bottom of the page to see the links). the section works in cooperation with other ifla sections and a number of international reading and library associations, including the international reading association (ira) and the international board on books for young people (ibby). the young adult library services association (yalsa) is a division of the american library association. Yalsa is a national association of librarians, library workers and advocates whose mission is to expand and strengthen library services for teens, aged 12-18. Teentober is a new, nationwide celebration hosted by libraries every october and aims to celebrate teens, promote year-round teen services and the innovative ways teen services helps teens learn new skills, and fuel their passions in and outside the library. Teentober replaces yalsas previous teen read week and teen tech week celebrations, allowing libraries the flexibility to choose. Ach year, the international literacy association releases three reading listschildrens choices, teachers choices, and young adults choices. These helpful resources are used not only to encourage young people to read, but also to guide book selection for school and classroom libraries. The australian library and information association acknowledges the traditional owners of country throughout australia and recognises their continuing connection to lands, waters, cultures and communities. We pay our respect to aboriginal and torres strait islander peoples and to elders past, present and emerging. Adults who habitually read find personal enjoyment and benefit from it. Unfortunately, too many young people report reading experiences that disconnect them from reading joy.
